complexity , the MIS Manager is faced with the challenge of managing
cross platforms architectures and applications . In this presentation
, AMD will provide insights on what are some factors that need to be
considered which translates into a lower TCO for the next generation
data centre . From the presentation , attendees will be able to dig
under the hype and focus on how components such as power management
, virtualization on silicon and high-throughput performance can enhance
their data centre capabilities while maintaining a competitive TCO level
.

Title: Innovate or perish - the
challenge for today's CIO
Abstract: Research is increasingly
showing that CEOs recognise that the path to sustaining and enhancing
corporate growth lies with innovation rather than cost-cutting. However,
their approach to innovation is also changing. Once they looked for
silver bullets and miracle cures, especially from IT. Today they are
exploring how they can use IT to enhance and enrich existing business
processes. The goal is to boost productivity and to grow the top line
by enabling their organisations to respond more rapidly to the relentlessly
changing business world of today.
In this presentation Peter Hind,
the long standing ICT author, journalist and industry analyst, will
examine these trends. He will draw on research from a number of sources,
including MIS Asia, IDC Asia Pacific and McKinsey's, to highlight that
CEOs need a fresh response from their IT departments. The task at hand
for CIOs is build on the foundation work they have undertaken in the
last few years in the areas of operational efficiency and security.
Now Peter will argue there is a need to assess how IT can enhance the
key knowledge workers of the organisation. His speech will show trends
in Asian IT budgets and technology adoption. He will also highlight
how CIOs can free themselves from an operational focus and where IT
investments can bring the best returns.

Title: Business IT Management Issue
Security & Identity Management
Abstract: Organizations today are
finding themselves in a difficult position. They must enable customers,
partners, vendors, suppliers and employees to access various applications
and corporate resources that reside across the enterprise. Yet, organizations,

management, are very conscious of the security implications of these
business demands. They must effectively manage and control all user
access to their critical corporate IT resources. This presentation provides
insights to:
- Managing identities securely
and cost effectively
- Achieving key business benefits
with a proper IAM solution
- Understanding the key features
of a robust Identity and Access Management (IAM) solution

Title: Expanding the Innovation
Horizon: The Global CEO Study 2006
Abstract: The focus of organisations
in Asia and globally is firmly set on sustainable growth. Change and
innovation are synonymous and real for all organisations. The Global
CEO Study 2006 is a strategy study based on direct consultation with
760 CEOs of the worlds leading companies. The findings represent
a collective global voice of the CEO. In the 2004 Global CEO Study,
CEOs provided a global view - a turn to growth - highlighting Asia as
a key source of both supply and demand. In this 2006 study, as a result
of accelerated globalization and technology advances, CEOs report that
competition has risen to new heights. Financial markets demand ever-faster
growth. And growth perhaps even survival depends on innovation.

Title: Empowering Organizational
Change with an SOA
Abstract: Whatever the business
challenges are in any organization, there are matching IT imperatives.
CEOs want to increase the speed of business change, and this requires
IT to be more responsive and to quickly adapt to the changing business
priorities. To improve business efficiency and performance, IT needs
to be tightly aligned with business strategy in a cost effective manner.
Business executives are responsible for defining WHAT the
business strategy is. IT executives are responsible for defining HOW
to execute that strategy within the existing infrastructure. This presentation
will look at how to separate, but align, the WHAT with the
HOW. A key element of how IT can align with and support
the demands of the business is a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA).
SOA is a combination of technologies and methodologies that allows organizations
to build a cross-enterprise, standards-based infrastructure to empower
business to respond quickly with speed to any customer demand, market
opportunity or threat.

Abstract: For the past few decades,
the concept of value chain has been deeply entrenched into all organizations.
In many ways, a generation of businesses has been shaped by the thinking
around the value chains. Yet, with the rapid paced evolution of business
models and the increasing complexity of the value chain structure, organizations
realized that there is an urgency to respond to these changes and improve
the efficiencies of these value chains. Further compounded by the inability
to progressively integrate the various repositories of information which
are housed in technology and applications which are increasingly fragmented,
this has made it imperative for all executives including business owners
to analyze their information value chain (IVC) and determine whether
each step of the IVC is "adding value" to its organizations.
This presentation will briefly touch
on a number of concepts including the IVC framework (a four quadrant
analysis). It will illustrate the relationship between the internal
and external components of a value chain and the awareness and responsiveness
of a value chain; and why superiority in information velocity is vital,
especially across and among the 4 quadrants.
We will also examine the elements
of a typical management IVC, another perspective of a value chain analysis
including answering the question "How can we measure the value
of information provided in the management IVC?" Here we will look
at the 3 dimensions of measurement namely quality, timeliness and sufficiency.

Abstract: Open-source software isn't
a new phenomenon. It has been winding its way through the tech
world for decades, starting with Richard Stallman's Free Software movement
in the 1980s. But only in recent years have businesses warmed to the
promise of low-cost, openly available software. In fact, open-source
development have become so popular, it now pose a legitimate threat
to the established methods of developing and deploying software systems.
The Internet's infrastructure
makes the best possible example and proposition for using and deploy
open source software systems. Consider DNS, sendmail, the various
open-source TCP/IP stacks and utility suites, and the open-source scripting
languages such as Perl that are behind most "live" content
on the Web. These are the running gears of the Internet.
Looking back, 2006 will likely be
viewed as a turning point. It is a year when CIOs signed off on open-source
projects, a big change from previous years when that happened only after
low-level engineers started such projects on their own initiative. It
was a year when venture capitalists woke up to the new business opportunities
of open source. It was a year when open source was the word on the lips
of not just early adopters but of an early majority. According to a
new study by consulting firm Optaros, 87% of organizations are now using
open-source software, somewhere.
